Writing Lessons

Classes versus Courses

I am super excited to announce that I will soon be offering writing courses!

What’s the difference between an online writing class and a writing course?

Previously, I have offered writing classes which are 8-week classes offered to individual students or small groups. Each week, we sign on together using video conferencing and correspond via Google Docs. These classes are great because I can interact with your child each week and they receive “real-time” writing instruction.

Soon, I will be offering writing courses – which are also 8-week classes offered through Google Classroom and Google Docs. The difference is that your child can access the materials completely online. Instead of meeting via Skype or Google Hangouts, I will instead post your child’s lessons on Google Classroom.

Another awesome thing about taking an online course is that you can choose whether you’d like your child’s writing class to be self-paced (I’ll send your the whole course and you and your child can decide how quickly you’d like to go through the lessons) or continue with the weekly format and join a class and have lessons sent to your child weekly with regular weekly assignments and feedback provided.

To summarize:

Online Writing Classes

  • One-on-one or small group setting
  • Real-time interaction using video conferencing
  • receive weekly feedback and support

Online Writing Courses

  • Self-paced
  • Receive the entire class all at once
  • Parents will use the rubric to provide feedback and support
  • Online Classroom format (check out Google Classroom! It’s online and an app)
  • No video conferencing
